Rail freight warehouse in Bristol welcomes extra Avonmouth port staff

Trade at the local Bristol and Avonmouth port is reaching such an extent that bosses have begun taking on extra staff to cope with demand. In total, fifty-five new members of staff have been taken on, including fourteen apprentices.

This brings the employment total to 550, with the aim to invest heavily into the port once the global economy recovers. This is welcome news for Central Park Bristol, as it makes our rail freight serviced warehouse all the more desirable and advantageous for any investors in the property. There are also plans, as we have previously discussed, to create a new deep sea terminal which will make Avonmouth one of the busiest ports in Europe.

Plans to create a new deep sea terminal are expected to make Avonmouth one of the biggest and busiest ports, not just in this country but also in the rest of Europe.

Chief Executive Simon Bird said: “We have been very busy over the past year so this is the perfect time to expand our workforce. I am delighted to welcome this enthusiastic group of new recruits to the company.”

One measure of the company’s recent success has been in the motor vehicle sector, which is a major part of the port’s business.

Over the past 12 months, car imports and exports were up four per cent on the previous 12 months, to 400,811 units. Imports from Spain and Italy were particularly strong, up over 10 per cent due to strong sales in UK. Export volumes to the Mediterranean region also held up well, despite the economic situation in many of the countries in the southern half of Europe.

The port receives goods from across the world including cereals, orange juice and raw materials for manufacturing. It is also one of the largest terminals in the country for aviation fuel and has a direct link to airports in the South West.
