Rail freight serviced warehouse with own terminal in Bristol; which leads the way for investment
Central Park Bristol, the rail freight serviced warehouse with its own terminal, is glad to be located in the top place in the UK outside London for positive investing. Bristolhas grown a reputation for environmental and ethical thinking, and now there are figures to back it up – in the form of a report by Ethex, an online stockmarket for positive investments.
The findings were no surprise to the founder and managing director of Ethex, Jamie Hartzell, who previously co-founded the Ethical Property Company in Bristol in 1999 with long-term Bristol resident Andy King. Mr Hartzell, 55, studied at the University of Bristol and worked in the city for about a decade as a film editor and researcher.
He said: “Bristol is again proving that it is the number-one city for social investment and independent living in the UK. Bristol has an eye to social change, particularly when it comes to the environment. That is why so many environmental organisations are based there. Plus it is a great place to live.”
The report, commissioned for Ethical Investment Week, found the Bristol postcode area with the highest number of positive investors – at 185 people – was BS6, which includes Cotham, Redland, St Andrew’s and parts of Bishopston and Montpelier. Other leading areas are BS7, which covers Horfield, Ashley Down and parts of Bishopston, and has 111 positive investors, and BS9, which has 110 positive investors and includes Westbury-on-Trym, Henleaze and Stoke Bishop.
Only North London was home to more positive investors than Bristol.
